Flat Out leads and participates in research and education to the broader community about women’s rights to live free from trauma, injustice and violence, and the issues that occur for women and trans and gender diverse people in the criminal legal system.

We welcome opportunities to partner with researchers who share our values and objectives.

Women and trans and gender diverse people with a lived experience of criminalisation are experts in their experience of the damage caused by incarceration. Whenever they choose to participate in research projects, they should:

  • be treated with respect

  • be adequately compensated for their time and expertise.

Please have a read of Tabitha Lean / Budhin Mingaan, from the National Network of Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, piece ‘Stop asking me to bleed for you for 50 bucks’. This has informed our approach to research.

If you have a research proposal, and agree to the above conditions, please complete the form below.
